AI begins to affect attendance: To save Token, some companies are making programmers work shifts

According to CoinMeta, a startup with about a dozen employees has started to implement a shift system for its programmers. The reason is not that the servers need to be monitored 24 hours a day, but rather to save on AI token. An employee posted on V2EX that the company makes extensive use of DeepSeek, Zhipu, and other coding services, which charge more during certain peak periods or consume more resources. As a result, the company has decided to arrange shifts according to the cheaper times. The new attendance policy requires employees to take one day off on weekdays and another on weekends, with the option to combine these days freely, but they must schedule their time in advance. Lunch breaks on weekdays have also been postponed to after 2:00 PM. The poster revealed that the company has currently purchased multiple sets of Minimax, GLM, DeepSeek, and Volcano Engine, among others. In the new round of API pricing, the price during weekday peaks is set at twice the off-peak rate, and on August 23, weekend rates were changed to the off-peak rates throughout the day. Zhipu's coding plan also charges based on time; during non-peak periods, model calls are discounted by 50% of the basic points consumed. Some people commented under the original post that humans are now actively cooperating with the price-based working hours set by AI, while others mentioned that their bosses have heard of similar practices and are considering whether to adopt them as well.
