OpenAI reinstates a 5-hour limit for Plus members: Codex and Work also implement stricter restrictions together
2026-08-25 09:32:00
According to CoinMeta, Thibault Sottiaux, the person in charge of OpenAI Codex, announced that a 5-hour usage limit will be re-imposed for Plus users, which will affect both ChatGPT Work and Codex. The Pro limits of $100 and $200 will not be reinstated for the time being and will continue as is for at least the next few months. This 5-hour restriction was previously temporarily lifted by OpenAI. Sottiaux explained that there are mainly two reasons for reinstating it: one is to spread the demand for computing power and avoid a large number of users using it all at once, and the other is to prevent Plus users from using up their entire weekly quota in one go.
