Kraken: Small transfers trigger compliance reviews, and some user accounts are temporarily restricted
2026-08-26 00:03:40
According to CoinMeta, Kraken has temporarily restricted some customer accounts due to nearly 12,000 small encrypted transactions originating from wallets related to HTX reaching the addresses associated with Kraken between August 17th and 24th. Kraken describes this activity as a "dust attack," believing it was intended to spread sanctioned funds and trigger compliance reviews, while HTX denies initiating these transactions and states that they are investigating whether they were caused by misattribution or malicious third-party activities. Although these individual transactions are economically insignificant, their compliance implications are quite significant. Kraken indicates that some customers who received these unauthorized transactions lost access to their accounts during the compliance review process, but access has since been restored to the affected users, who continue to hold the sanctioned funds.
