According to CoinMeta, as reported by Nikkei News, the Japanese government, the Bank of Japan (central bank), and financial institutions plan to advance the construction of a next-generation financial settlement infrastructure based on blockchain, with the goal of achieving 24-hour real-time settlement for transactions of assets such as government bonds and stocks. The Financial Services Agency, the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Japan, and related financial institutions will establish a research committee this summer, with plans to formulate a construction plan by early 2027 to discuss the blockchain architecture and the manner of collaboration between the government, the central bank, and financial institutions. Japan has previously conducted several blockchain financial experiments, but this is the first time a clear timeline for implementation has been set.
