According to CoinMeta, the White House plans to announce a new round of "most-favored-nation" drug pricing agreements with several mid-sized biotech companies on Monday. The relevant companies will agree to provide discounts on outpatient drugs for state medical assistance programs, ensuring that the prices paid by the states are in line with the overseas prices of these companies. States will have the option to decide whether to participate. In exchange, the companies will be exempt from participating in pilot projects that require the implementation of similar discounts. Since last year, the Trump administration has reached similar agreements with 17 large pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Eli Lilly. Researchers estimate that if the relevant pricing mechanism covers 82 high-priced brand drugs, states could save more than $8 billion each year.
