According to CoinMeta, SoftBank is in talks to acquire a majority stake in the startup 1x technologies for a valuation of around $6 billion. 1x is a humanoid robot development company that has received support from OpenAI. This deal will support SoftBank's ambitions in the robotics field and provide 1x with additional funding to bring its robots, which feature flexible body designs, into consumer homes to help users with household chores. 1x, which was founded 12 years ago, attempted to raise $1 billion last year with a valuation of $10 billion but ultimately raised less than half of that amount. Masayoshi Son of SoftBank CEO has long been an investor and owner of robotics developers, and he predicts that physical devices that combine robotics technology with artificial intelligence will give rise to the next trillion-dollar company. There are also indications that OpenAI discussed the possibility of acquiring 1x last year, but the negotiations ultimately broke down.
