Several EU countries urge the resumption of using frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by the Financial Times, EU countries including Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, and Poland are urging the EU to reinstate the use of frozen Russian sovereign assets to provide funding for Ukraine in response to concerns about Kiev facing another financing crisis. Previously, the EU planned to use over 200 billion euros of Russian Central Bank assets frozen within EU territory to fund Ukraine, but that plan failed last winter due to Belgium, which holds a large portion of these assets, blocking the initiative. Sources revealed that an alliance of countries will call on the EU executive body to restart research on the related scheme in a letter to the European Commission, and request an explanation on whether progress has been made in alternative legal and technical frameworks to bypass Belgium's veto. The letter is expected to be sent on Thursday.
