According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the “2026 Cryptocurrency Security Landscape Report” published by Coingecko indicates that from January 2025 to July 2026, the cryptocurrency industry suffered a total loss of $3.63 billion in 245 recorded security incidents, with the top 10 attacks accounting for over 72.5% of the total stolen amount. Among the platforms that were attacked, approximately 60% (147) had completed independent security audits prior to the incidents, and the stolen amounts accounted for 88.44% of the total losses. However, most of the attacks occurred outside the scope of these audits, with only about 11% being vulnerabilities within the scope of regular contract audits. Meanwhile, the active underwriting scale of on-chain insurance protocols decreased by 20.2% from $163.2 million to $130.2 million. Restrictions such as narrow claims coverage led to 5 out of 9 on-chain insurance protocols either ceasing operations or undergoing transformation, while centralized exchanges have become increasingly dependent on their own investor protection funds to address security risks.
