ECB: Middle East and Russia-Ukraine tensions increase the risk of high oil and gas prices
2026-08-27 20:01:40
According to CoinMeta, the European Central Bank (ECB) pointed out that due to the geopolitical developments in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Russia, the risks faced by oil and natural gas prices in the future remain high. The minutes of the ECB's meeting, released on Thursday, show that although current oil prices are still far below recent highs and the futures price curve has weakened, oil prices will remain significantly higher than pre-war levels throughout the forecast period, indicating a continued upward trend in oil prices with risks still leaning towards the upside. In addition, the ECB noted that the recent decline in oil prices has not alleviated the medium-term inflation path reflected in market pricing, and inflation expectations remain anchored. The ECB reiterated its commitment to maintaining price stability and will take timely action to achieve its medium-term inflation target of 2%.
