According to CoinMeta, the Canadian Treasury Department stated that Canada has added copper wires and charcoal manufactured in the United States to a 50% counter-tariff list, in place of fish and seafood products that were previously removed. The government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans to make the annual import value covered by these counter-tariffs roughly equivalent to the impact of the Trump administration's 50% tariffs on Canadian goods, which amounted to about $20 billion. The U.S. tariffs took effect last Saturday, while Canada's counter-tariffs will come into effect on September 8th. In addition to copper wires and charcoal, some American glass containers, printed images, and gypsum bricks have also been newly included in the 50% tariff list.
