240 UK taxpayers declared capital gains of £717 million from crypto assets

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by decrypt, data from the UK Tax and Customs Department shows that 240 individuals declared capital gains on crypto assets of over £1 million each, totaling £717 million, which accounts for more than half of the total. The total capital gains declared by all 17,600 taxpayers amounted to £1.38 billion, with disposal proceeds amounting to £13.8 billion. Taxpayers who declared capital gains of less than £25,000 accounted for 65% and contributed 7% of the capital gains and 8% of the disposal proceeds. Among taxpayers with crypto assets, 54% were aged between 25 and 44, and men made up 87% of this group. James Murray, the Financial Secretary to the UK Treasury, stated that capital gains on crypto assets, like other types of capital gains, are subject to taxation.
