Starkware: The First Official Defense Measure Against Quantum Computers Cracking Bitcoin Encryption
2026-08-29 01:21:15
According to CoinMeta, researcher Avihu Levy announced that the company has locked real Bitcoins in storage, claiming that no quantum computer is capable of unlocking them. This move is seen as the first official defense against what is considered the biggest threat to Bitcoin's survival. The solution does not require a fork or upgrade and operates under Bitcoin's existing rules; it was implemented in block 964,199 of the mainnet, with each transaction costing between $75 and $200. According to Glassnode data, over 6 million Bitcoins, which account for about 30% of the total supply, are still exposed to quantum risks.
