According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Bitcoin.com, the New York State Department of Consumer Protection has warned that scammers are using fake voices, faces, celebrity endorsements, and phishing information generated by AI to package fake investment platforms and cryptocurrency projects. Some of these platforms display false balances and investment returns, and even allow victims to withdraw a small amount of money first in order to induce them to invest more. Data from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) shows that in 2025, a total of 144,041 consumers across the United States reported encountering investment scams, with losses exceeding $8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 38%, and the median loss being $10,560. This data covers various types of investment scams in the United States and is not limited to AI or cryptocurrency scams alone.
