According to CoinMeta, an investor in the UK has successfully recovered 61 bitcoins after 12 years of effort, which are now worth approximately $5 million. The investor purchased bitcoins worth about £1,500 through an early-stage cryptocurrency exchange in 2011, but lost access to these bitcoins after the exchange collapsed in 2014. Thanks to the efforts of a legal team and the use of blockchain records for tracking, the bitcoins were finally recovered in May 2026. The investor stated that they plan to use some of the funds to buy a larger family home and will hold the remaining bitcoins as a long-term investment.
