According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Xinhua News Agency, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen vowed this week to launch a fierce economic attack on Iran and its trading partners. However, by the end of the week, countries with ties to Iran seemed to disregard this threat, and analysts expressed disappointment with the actions taken by the United States. The U.S. announced plans to sanction the branch of Egypt's Misr Bank located in the United Arab Emirates, a move that fell short of external expectations. Capitol Peak Strategies founder Alex Zerden stated that the actions publicly taken by the U.S. Treasury Department this week did not match the extensive publicity beforehand. These economic sanctions continue the restrictive measures against Iran that have been in place for 47 years and do not provide a clearer path for achieving economic or military victory through these current actions.
