SWIFT Utilizes Blockchain to Address Stablecoin Challenges: HSBC and Standard Chartered Complete First Transaction
2026-08-30 23:24:22
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Coindesk, SWIFT currently processes approximately $5 trillion in cross-border settlements per day, but the transaction cost ranges from 1% to 4%, and the settlement process takes 1 to 5 working days. Faced with competition from stablecoins and tokenized assets, SWIFT launched a blockchain ledger last month. HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank completed their first real-time transaction through this system, reducing the settlement time to just a few seconds. BNY predicts that by 2030, the market size of stablecoins and tokenized cash will reach $3.7 trillion, while Citibank expects the market size of tokenized securities to grow to $5.5 trillion during the same period.
