OpenClaw 2.0 Release: The Biggest Update in History After 7 Weeks of Hard Work
2026-08-31 11:44:27
According to CoinMeta, the OpenClaw development team announced the release of “OpenClaw 2.0,” which is the largest update to the project to date. 933 developers participated, merging over 16,000 PR, which accounts for about half of all the PR that have been merged in the project's history. The focus of this update is to lower the barrier to use; during installation, it will automatically recognize any existing ChatGPT, Claude subscriptions, API, key, and local models, reducing the need for manual configuration. The browser interface has also been redesigned to support direct chatting, continuing tasks, and managing sessions, and it now allows multiple people to join or take over the same task. The update also affects messages, memories, skills, models, automation, plugins, security, and native applications. The team acknowledges that they have been releasing updates too quickly in the past, and that the underlying infrastructure and release process could not keep up. In the future, they will continue to reduce the frequency of updates.
