According to CoinMeta, data released on Monday by India’s Ministry of Statistics and Planning Implementation showed that the Indian economy grew faster than expected in the quarter from April to June, with a year-on-year growth of 7.8%, which is higher than economists’ median forecast of 7.3% and matches the growth rate of the previous quarter. This data alleviates market concerns that the war with Iran could severely weaken economic growth and highlights India’s resilience as Asia’s third-largest economy. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) previously forecasted an economic growth of 7% for the quarter from April to June and expects the economy to grow by 6.7% this fiscal year. Stronger economic growth may complicate interest rate prospects; the RBI kept the benchmark interest rate at 5.25% unchanged in August, but policymakers have signaled that interest rate hikes may be necessary later this year if inflationary pressures intensify.
