According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Epoch Times, federal officials in the United States arrested Darwin Jonathan Rivera Flores, who holds Honduran citizenship, on August 28 in California. He was charged with illegally registering to vote and falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen. Rivera, 30 years old, faces two charges: falsely claiming U.S. citizenship and fraudulent voter registration. He entered the United States in 2002 and had previously received a misdemeanor summons for interfering with federal immigration operations during protests in Carmio, California. The Department of Justice stated that between April and July, Rivera sent text messages to a federal agent saying, "You're not a good person, I can't wait for the midterms, you don't have a valid exemption." The investigation found that in his 2025 application, he claimed to be a U.S. citizen, with his place of birth listed as "United States of America." The Department of Justice emphasized that "there is no record of Rivera seeking or obtaining U.S. citizenship" and noted that he did not vote in U.S. elections.
