According to CoinMeta, Russia's new crypto regulations will come into effect on September 1st. Sberbank predicts that the volume of regulated transactions in the first year will reach $46 billion. Russia's regulated crypto market is about to open, and it is expected to bring considerable trading activity. Banks and brokers are preparing to incorporate more crypto transactions into the domestic financial infrastructure. Sberbank estimates that regulated Russian exchanges will handle transactions worth 3.5 to 4 trillion rubles (approximately $46 billion) under the new framework. By 2029, the annual trading volume could reach around 7.5 trillion rubles. Under the new regulations, both qualified and ordinary investors can access cryptocurrencies through regulated intermediaries. Non-qualified investors have a purchase limit of 300,000 rubles per year per intermediary and must pass a knowledge test. Qualified investors, on the other hand, can trade without restrictions. This framework does not consider Bitcoin or USDT to be legal tender for regular domestic payments; instead, it establishes a regulated infrastructure around crypto investment, custody, and specific cross-border uses. Sberbank is also preparing crypto mortgage products, planning to offer loans secured by Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT once the necessary regulatory structures are in place.
