According to CoinMeta, on Monday, the Trump administration reached new drug pricing agreements with nine mid-sized pharmaceutical companies. This came amidst concerns within the industry that price concessions could affect the profits of smaller companies. The U.S. government has been pressing mid-sized companies to cooperate with the pricing system and to expand the scope of the “most-favored-nation” agreements previously reached with 17 large pharmaceutical manufacturers. The latest batch of companies involved includes Alcon, Astellas Pharma, BeiGene, bridgebio, csl, Kyowa Kirin, Sun Pharmaceutical, Teva Pharmaceutical, and UCB. The White House stated that these companies also committed to investing at least $19.6 billion in U.S. manufacturing in the short term, and some companies donated active pharmaceutical ingredients to the government’s strategic reserves.
