According to CoinMeta, stablecoins in Argentina account for as high as 94% of cryptocurrency transactions denominated in pesos, which is the highest proportion among major fiat currencies. Analysis shows that many Argentines use cryptocurrencies primarily to obtain digital dollars, rather than to speculate on volatile tokens. In 2024, the downloads of 15 major cryptocurrency applications in Argentina increased by 93% year-on-year. Argentine families have long saved in dollars, and bank restrictions, currency devaluation, and persistent inflation have reduced people's confidence in the peso. Stablecoins have extended this practice to digital wallets.
