According to CoinMeta, Federal Reserve official Michael Barr stated that if inflation does not subside, they will support decisive interest rate hikes. According to the predictions of traders identified by Polymarket, the probability of a rate hike in 2026 has reached 72%. In his prepared remarks on September 1st, Barr pointed out that inflation is still too high, and policymakers need to decide whether current interest rates are sufficient to curb it. He said that if future reports show that price growth has returned to the Federal Reserve's 2% target, more time could be given to assess the policy stance. The latest data shows that personal consumption expenditure ( PCE ) has an annual inflation rate of 3.7%, and core PCE inflation is at 3.3%. Barr's remarks have led more officials to consider raising borrowing costs.
