On-chain monitoring team alert: yam and finance have suffered malicious governance takeover attacks
2026-09-02 14:06:31
According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the on-chain monitoring team defimon issued an alert stating that a malicious governance takeover attack targeting the established DEFI protocol and its yam finance components was detected. The attackers held approximately 504,000 yam through self-delegation, which accounts for about 3.3% of the total supply, and submitted Governance Proposal No. 45 with a blank description ("0x"). This proposal contained a malicious call intended to transfer the pending administrator privileges of yam timelock to the attackers. Once the vote is passed and executed, the attackers will take over the timelock contract, thereby gaining full control over all protocol contracts of yam as well as the treasury funds of DAO valued at approximately $337,000. Since this protocol has been in a dormant state for a long time, the community is urging holders of yam tokens to vote against this proposal as soon as possible before Ethereum block 25897343 (with about 34 hours remaining) in order to resolve the crisis.
