LLM Token Expenditure Index Falls to 97 Cents, Down More than 50% from May's High

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Yonhap News, the LLM Token expenditure index released by the American market information agency Silicon Data fell to 97 cents per million Token on August 31, hitting a historical low since its establishment at the end of last year, a decrease of over 50% from the high of $2.05 in May. The open-source models Kimi K3 and OpenAI launched by "The Dark Side of the Month," the downgrading of pricing for the ChatGPT-5.6 series of models, and the adoption of dynamic pricing mechanisms by leading manufacturers all contributed to the downward trend in prices. The decline in Token prices put revenue pressure on model developers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Investment executives suggest that basic model companies should focus on strengthening their distribution channels, memory capabilities, and contextual understanding to counter the competitive erosion from open-source models.
