Coinbase Co-founder Invests Cryptocurrency Wealth in Venezuelan Oil
2026-09-03 01:38:26
According to CoinMeta, Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam is seeking control over three Venezuelan oil fields through the investment company Primavera that they jointly founded, while also exploring fintech and digital payment opportunities in the country. This move involves deploying crypto capital into the reallocation of sovereign energy assets, reflecting a rebuilding of economic relations between Washington and Venezuela. Ehrsam's investment company, Primavera, focuses on opportunities in Venezuela, with targets including three oil fields: Boca, Guico, and Guara. These oil fields are currently operated by the Brazilian drilling company Alvorada Heavy Industries. The company has invested approximately $30 million to restart idle wells, and its contracts are under review by both U.S. and Venezuelan authorities. Ehrsam's investment activities are not limited to the oil sector but also involve financial infrastructure, which may have a broader impact on the crypto market.
