Impersonating the GTA leaked version website to induce connections to wallets and steal users' encrypted assets
2026-09-03 08:50:49
According to CoinMeta, researchers from Malwarebytes discovered a website that pretended to be a countdown page for a GTA fan community, enticing users to purchase what was claimed to be a leaked version of the game. Once users connected their cryptocurrency wallets, the website loaded a malware program. This malicious code was capable of checking wallet balances, identifying tokens and NFT, and transferring assets after user authorization. The related script supported Ethereum, Polygon, BNB smart chains, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base, and Fantom networks. Rockstar has not yet released a GTA version, nor did it require users to connect their cryptocurrency wallets or make payments with cryptocurrencies.
