Bessent: Digital assets may become a new target of sanctions against Iran
2026-09-03 15:39:30
According to CoinMeta, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that digital assets, airlines, and the maritime industry may face new sanctions as the Trump administration prepares to increase economic pressure on Iran. Bessent noted that Washington is considering further actions, which could include imposing new restrictions on banks and aircraft leasing companies related to Iran. He warned governments and businesses around the world to avoid contact with Iran and emphasized that no support should be provided to that regime. Bessent's warning came after Russian President Putin expressed his support for Iran. The U.S. Treasury Department has expanded its authority to track cryptocurrency activities related to Iran and launched economic isolation measures on August 24, covering digital assets and other financial channels.
