The U.S. House of Representatives cancels its September meeting, delaying the voting on the CLARITY bill

According to CoinMeta, the Republican Party in the U.S. House of Representatives has decided to cancel the last two weeks of the September session, which could significantly delay the deliberation of the CLARITY bill and bring new concerns to the U.S. crypto industry. The House of Representatives will return to Washington on September 14 for a four-day session, after which it will leave the capital until after the mid-term elections. This timing could pose a major obstacle to the market structure bill. The Senate plans to resume from its August recess on September 14 and is expected to hold a preliminary vote on the CLARITY bill on September 15. However, even if the legislation passes the Senate, it still needs to be approved in the same form by the House of Representatives before it can be signed into law. Analyst Brendan Pedersen stated that this could be very bad news for the crypto industry. He claimed that the shortened schedule of the House of Representatives could push the voting on the CLARITY bill to the “lame-duck” period after the elections, when the composition of Congress may change. Alex Thorn, the head of research for Galaxy Digital, also said that the shortened September session makes it “extremely unlikely” that the CLARITY bill will pass before the mid-term elections.
