These messages contained shortened links that induced users to “verify” or “protect” their accounts. Binance did not disclose the number of users who received these messages, nor did they provide any data on losses related to this activity. The fraudulent messages were designed to resemble official notifications, usually warning users about accidental logins, changes to account settings, or other security issues that require immediate action. Binance recommended that users enable a whitelist for withdrawal addresses to limit withdrawals to wallet addresses approved by the account holders, as a means of enhancing security.
