According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) published working paper 1374, proposing a scheme to use blockchain technology (BTC) to verify the source and integrity of official statistical data. This method generates an encrypted fingerprint for the dataset and writes a summary value of the batch data into a blockchain ledger. Users can combine this with digital signature credentials and a single on-chain query to confirm the identity of the data publisher and whether the data has been tampered with. Prototype tests show that data publication takes about 3–5 seconds, while verification takes about 1–2 seconds. The paper emphasizes that this system is still in the concept validation phase and is not officially deployed for production use.
