AMC CEO: Doubts about the legality of Robinhood stock tokens remain to be verified
2026-09-05 00:38:17
According to CoinMeta, Adam Allen, the CEO of AMC, an entertainment company, has expressed strong criticism of Robinhood's stock token plan, questioning its legality. Allen pointed out that AMC has no association with these tokens and does not support their use. He questioned whether this structure complies with securities laws and stated that he will have external legal counsel review the matter. Documents from Robinhood indicate that the stock tokens are not registered under U.S. securities laws and cannot be offered or sold to U.S. persons. As a result, Robinhood's stock-related products are limited to qualified users outside of the United States. The stock tokens are issued by Robinhood Assets Jersey Limited, a company registered in Jersey with the registration number 162428. Its documents state that the tokens are not registered under the 1933 Securities Act and cannot be delivered within the United States or provided for the benefit of U.S. persons. Robinhood also lists several markets with sales restrictions, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Allen emphasized that AMC is not involved in this tokenization effort and does not recognize these products. AMC will have external securities advisors review the situation, but no legal actions have been announced yet.
