According to CoinMeta, the Cybersecurity Working Group of G7 warns that governments and enterprises should migrate to post-quantum cryptography as soon as possible, as attackers can steal and save current encrypted data first, and then decrypt it when quantum computing capabilities are sufficient in the future. Digital signatures may also face the risk of being cracked. The report does not directly mention cryptocurrencies, but Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana also rely on public key cryptography. Bitcoin developers are researching post-quantum solutions including BIP-360, Ethereum researchers are evaluating alternative cryptographic components for accounts, verifiers, and applications, and the Solana Foundation has already been testing post-quantum signatures on the test network and has introduced an optional hash-based fund protection scheme. G7 recommends that countries develop national-level PQC migration strategies and promote collaboration between the public and private sectors as well as updates to procurement standards.
