According to CoinMeta, after creating 162,000 new jobs in August, Trump reiterated his call for lower interest rates and threatened to stop trading with countries that have trade deficits. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday that non-farm employment increased by 162,000 in August, with the unemployment rate remaining at 4.1%. Economists expect the economy to create about 56,000 additional jobs. The increase in August was significantly higher than the average monthly increase of 31,000 over the past 12 months. Trump stated on social media that the strength of the U.S. economy should allow the Federal Reserve to lower borrowing costs and claimed that the United States should have “the lowest interest rates in the world.” He also linked monetary policy to the trade agenda, threatening to take action against countries that sell more goods and services to the United States. According to Reuters, Trump said that if the Federal Reserve does not lower interest rates, he will stop trading with those countries.
