Russia Expands Compliant Access to Cryptocurrencies, Banks Prepare New Services

According to CoinMeta, Russia's new crypto regulations came into effect on September 1st, allowing qualified and unqualified investors to trade through compliant intermediaries. Major banks are preparing the infrastructure, while the Russian Central Bank has proposed to limit banks' crypto-related risks to within 1% of their capital. Unqualified investors face annual purchase restrictions, and crypto payments within Russia are still prohibited. Banks will begin reporting crypto-related risks and transaction volumes from January 2027.
