South Africa plans to include crypto assets in its foreign exchange control system

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Bloomberg, South Africa plans to incorporate crypto assets into its foreign exchange control system and restrict their use in cross-border transactions. Sources familiar with the matter said that due to the proposed regulatory adjustments, local digital asset companies have put on hold at least three transactions totaling 2.2 billion South African rand (about $135 million), which involve private equity investments, small business financing, and corporate fund management. The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) stated that the relevant regulations are still in the draft stage, and regulatory authorities are considering public opinions while continuing to discuss the regulation of crypto assets such as stablecoins. The deadline for collecting feedback on the draft rules for cross-border crypto asset transactions is September 30th.
