2026-09-23 15:50:11
CoinMeta Data: Coinbase now allows users to borrow US dollar stablecoins USDC pegged to Bitcoin (BTC) at a fixed interest rate. Users can borrow based on the amount of Bitcoin they hold (currently valued at approximately $86,037.36). The newly introduced fixed-rate, Bitcoin-backed USDC loans have their interest rates and repayment dates determined at the time of borrowing, providing an alternative to the existing floating-rate loans on Coinbase. This move expands on the previous floating-rate lending model on the blockchain, offering users greater certainty regarding costs and loan terms. These fixed-rate loans are based on the Morpho Midnight protocol, which is a decentralized, non-custodial lending protocol. According to Bitcoin digital credit reports compiled by Apyx and BitcoinTreasuries.net, the current market size for Bitcoin-backed credit is about $16 billion, and it is expected to grow to $130 billion by 2030.
