Hester Peirce: Blockchain transparent ledgers combined with zero-knowledge proofs can reshape financial regulation
2026-09-24 20:22:36
According to CoinMeta, Commissioner Hester Peirce of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) stated at the SIFMA Digital Assets Conference that regulatory authorities should shift from collecting more data to utilizing new technologies for precise verification. She mentioned that technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs can verify whether users meet requirements such as age, citizenship, qualified investor status, or being on sanction lists without disclosing underlying personal information like names, incomes, or addresses. Hester Peirce recommended that the federal government and regulatory agencies adopt attribute-based verification and allow registered entities to rely on third-party identity verification in order to reduce the collection of sensitive information.
