THORChain Refuses to Block Assets Related to Bitget Hackers
2026-09-27 20:49:21
CoinMeta data: THORChain refuses to block assets related to the hacker from Bitget. The hacker stole $387.5 million from the Bitget exchange on September 24, and some of the funds are being converted into Bitcoin through THORChain. THORChain allows users to exchange tokens between different blockchains without any identity verification. Once the funds are converted into Bitcoin, no company can freeze them. The CEO of Bitget, Gracy Chen, demanded that THORChain reject the hacker, stating that "decentralization is a design principle, not to provide protection for known stolen funds." Blockchain tracker Misttrack pointed out that a similar situation occurred during last year's $1.46 billion Bybit hacking incident, with nearly $1.2 billion in funds traced back to THORChain. Despite the criticism, the RUNE token of THORChain has risen by more than 20% in the past 24 hours.
