The deadline for NIST AI proxy standards has arrived, with a lack of an executable framework.

According to CoinMeta, the deadline for compliance with the standards set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is approaching, but there is still a lack of an enforceable framework in place. According to a 2026 survey, 17% of companies have already deployed proxy solutions, and another 42% plan to do so within the next year. Despite companies being rapidly advancing with their deployments, the absence of a federal measurement framework makes the definitions of "security" or "compliance" rather vague. NIST's 2026 status report indicates that 88.4% of companies have experienced security vulnerabilities in their proxy solutions over the past 12 months, with data breaches and malicious input manipulation being the most common incidents.
