Inexpensive AI models stand out as US companies cut costs
2026-09-28 06:21:09
CoinMeta data: As American companies cut costs, cheaper AI models are gradually gaining favor. When choosing AI solutions, companies tend to opt for those with a higher cost-performance ratio rather than automatically selecting the most advanced ones. This trend has put certain pressure on high-priced models, as new models are narrowing the performance gap while the cost of tokens continues to decline. According to Ramp data, in August 2026, 43.8% of American companies purchased Anthropic products, compared to 39.8% for OpenAI. Ramp also indicates that the increasing use of cheaper models poses a threat to AI companies that rely on continuous spending on high-end systems. Based on Epoch AI data, the cost of maintaining AI performance levels has decreased by about 47% since 2023.
