According to CoinMeta, the chairman of the Australian Senate Inquiry Committee has invited Sam Altman from OpenAI and Dario Amodei from Anthropic to attend a public hearing in Canberra on October 1st. This request stems from the unauthorized access by representatives of OpenAI to the Australian healthcare statistics portal. The two CEOs received a written request on September 27th to attend the hearing. Senators Sarah Hanson to Young stated that Altman needs to answer serious questions regarding the intrusion into the Australian government website. This investigation will focus on the impact of AI and their data centers on local communities, industries, water resources, and power consumption. The two companies are in negotiations with the Labor Party government regarding local data in order to expand their business in Australia.
