Rising oil prices drag down India's stock market to nearly six-month lows
2026-09-28 14:15:44
According to CoinMeta, due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East driving up oil prices, India's stock market declined. Both the benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex fell by 1.4%, reaching their lowest levels in nearly six months. All 16 major sectors saw declines, with financial stocks, bank stocks, and private bank stocks, which carry higher weights, falling between 1.7% and 2%. The state-owned bank index dropped by 2.4%. As the world's third-largest oil importer, rising crude oil prices will increase India's import costs, exacerbate inflation concerns, and squeeze corporate profits.
