Apollo Chief Economist Warns: AI Assistant May Trigger Bank Runs
2026-09-28 22:16:43
According to CoinMeta, the chief economist of Apollo, Torsten Slok, warns that AI assistants could lead to bank runs. He pointed out that while these assistants help users optimize their cash management, they may transfer funds from traditional banks to fintech companies. If every household's AI assistant were to do this, banks would lose deposits that are essential for lending. Slok also mentioned that Apollo currently manages $849 billion in credit business and plans to manage $1.2 trillion in private credit by 2029. Recently, personal AI assistants such as Meta's Muse and Instinct have become very popular online, with users using them to handle daily tasks. However, many businesses have begun to block AI assistants from accessing their services.
