According to CoinMeta, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) completed negotiations on a digital economy framework agreement earlier this year, and it is expected to be signed at the ASEAN summit in November. The agreement aims to establish common rules and standards for key elements of modern digital trade, such as data, digital payments, e-commerce, online consumer protection, and artificial intelligence, in order to promote seamless cross-border commerce. The implementation of this agreement will help to address the border issues faced by the digital economy and facilitate business integration within the region. According to benchmark studies by Google, Temasek, and Bain, Southeast Asia's digital economy exceeded $300 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2030.
