According to CoinMeta, family-owned businesses play an important role in the U.S. economy, but founders face difficult decisions when considering passing on their businesses to the next generation. Goldman Sachs' latest podcast discussed the strategies that family-owned businesses should adopt when planning for generational transitions. FX De Mallmann, Chairman of Goldman Sachs' Investment Banking division, pointed out that there are over 32 million family-owned businesses in the United States, accounting for more than 80% of all businesses, and they contribute to over 60% of GDP and the overall workforce. Despite the significant presence of family-owned businesses in the economy, only one-third of these businesses are able to be passed on to the second generation, and only one-tenth are able to make it to the third generation.
