Bitget Hacker Incident Reveals a Double Standard for Stolen Funds

According to CoinMeta, Bitget recently suffered a hacker attack, resulting in a loss of approximately $387.5 million. The CEO of the exchange, Gracy Chen, requested that Thorchain deny services to the identified attacker addresses and questioned why the same requirement was not imposed on the blockchain that carried the stolen funds. Bitget pointed out that the attackers exploited vulnerabilities in third-party security products to obtain internal credentials and submit fraudulent withdrawal commands. After the attack, the funds flowed through multiple networks and services before being traced on the BNB chain and Ethereum. The governance process of Thorchain requires that protocol changes go through development, review, and adoption by nodes, and implementing a comprehensive wallet blacklist involves the participation of independent operators. The requirements of Bitget may affect the network's trading rules, leading to broader consequences.
