According to CoinMeta, Google has applied to a European ordinary court to overturn two digital market regulations, which could force the tech giant to provide search data to its competitors and allow competing AI assistants to run on the Android system. The appeals focus on directives issued by the European Commission in July; one of these directives requires Google to provide information on users' searches and clicks to competing search providers (including AI chatbots), with a deadline of January 2027 set. The second directive requires Google to open up parts of Android that currently give it a Gemini advantage, allowing competing AI services to access features such as voice activation. Google states that this appeal is in response to user risks, rather than merely concerns about market share. Oliver Bettele, Google's Senior Director of Competition, said that these decisions will require the company to share users' private search histories without sufficient anonymization and will weaken the security protections of Android. The European Commission, on the other hand, stated that it will firmly defend these rulings, believing that the measures include safeguards for safety and data protection.
