The specific responsibilities of this position have not yet been clarified, but Trump has previously indicated his desire to establish a new government agency called the "Artificial Intelligence Corps." Clayton stated during the confirmation hearing for his nomination in July this year that, similar to the views of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the notion that "artificial intelligence is both an opportunity and a threat" also applies to the intelligence community. Trump told reporters outside the White House that he hopes to determine the candidate within the next three to four days.
