Trump Announces Crackdown on Crypto Fraud, FBI Targets Fraud Networks
2026-10-21 21:33:15
According to CoinMeta, Trump is expected to announce federal crackdowns on crypto scams on October 21, 2026, with the aim of protecting American investors from online fraud. Last year, there were over 1 million reports of internet scams, a 17% increase from the previous year. The plan targets overseas criminal networks that operate fake investment platforms and crypto impersonation scams. Trump's announcement will include actions against these scam networks, particularly what are known as "pig slaughter" scams, where criminals establish trust through fake crypto platforms to trick victims into investing. Recent law enforcement actions have shut down 241 fake websites and 112 servers related to these scams. Crypto-related fraud remains a critical issue, as scammers can use fake trading platforms and digital wallets to steal victims' funds.
